Mexico
Orizaba (18,400 feet)
El Pico de Orizaba is Mexico's highest mountain and
the third highest mountain in North America, only Mt McKinley and Mt Logan
stand taller. We climb the standard Jamapa Glacier route or the Ruta
Espinoza variation with spectacular summit day views of the Gulf, the
Mexican countryside and the two other mexican giants: 17,930ft
Popocatepetl
and 17,160ft Iztaccihuatl. We base out of the Piedra Grande hut at
13,800ft
but make a higher biviuac at almost 16,000ft at the base of the climbing
route.
A straightforward climb, Orizaba is one of the most accessible high
altitude peaks anywhere and a great mountain to experience moderately high
altitude climbing. A well thought out and proven acclimatization schedule
ensures your safety and the greatest possibility for a successful climb.
Detailed itineraries, conditioning guidelines, packing lists, and
references are available on request.
Itineraries are subject to change based on weather, route conditions, and team
strength.
