Ryan in the ICU...
"While my wife and I were riding our motorcycle on Sunday June 27 2004 at 11:30 am, in Cleveland, GA. a drunk driver slammed into us head on. This caused me to go over the handle bars face first into the windshield - shattering it with my face and then flipping me over the Dodge Durango.
I crushed my left orbital, nose, both cheeks, completely broke the roof of my mouth, lost 2 teeth and broke 4, as for my knee I tore my post crucial ligament, tore my post lateral meniscus and broke cartilage, if that doesn't top it all off I suffered a minor brain injury and spent 6 weeks as an out patient at Shepard Center."
Ryan Castleberry is the epitome of our axiom, If it Seems Impossible… It's Got to Be Us. Ryan's doctors told him that he would never be able to run or ride a bike much less race again. Ryan's iron-willed determination proved them all wrong when he raced and finished his first triathlon in less then one year from this brutally crushing accident. Ryan continues to race in some of the toughest adventure races and triathlons in the nation. His most recent goal is to finish and win his age group at Iron Man Wisconsin. Can you think of a greater inspiration and comeback story? You'd be hard pressed!
