Jesse Selwyn: Climbing Instructor
I still feel a little fear whenever I climb, but through controlling it,
the fear acts as fuel and provides an edge. Learning to control your fear
and use it as a fuel is what Hairy Scary does. When you forget about other
things in life and focus on what you're doing, great success occurs and
previous mental limitations shatter.
As one of the first original members of Hairy Scary Evolutions, Jesse brings enormous expertise in mountain bike racing, sailing, swimming, climbing and
paddling. In 1997-98, Jesse was ranked the number one Junior
rider in the Southeast and placed second in the 1998 NORBA nationals. His expert mountain
bike race training greatly influenced the performance of both ILing and Jono in their
successful persuit of the 2005 Solo 24 Hour World Championships. Jesse is Hairy Scary's high angle site recon man-We put all our trust and faith in him to scope out the best routes and set the anchor points on all our New Rope and Rock Training Evolutions. Jesse set up all the climbing routes and anchor points for the CNN/Headline News piece on Hairy Scary Evolutions.
In addition to being one of Hairy Scary's primary rope men, Jesse has been up
and down many of the highest technical faces and cliffs in the southeast and Virginia/West Virginia
area. He is an avid SCUBA diver, certified life guard, and is qualified as
a Navy 1st class open water swimmer. Jesse has sailed lasers, ocean going schooners,
and Corsair trimarans. After graduating from college, Jesse's ultimate goal is to win a place among the Warrior Elite in the Navy Special Warfare SEAL Teams.
